EV Charging Installation at Home Singapore | Complete Guide

With Singapore targeting 60,000 EV charging points by 2030 and electric vehicle adoption growing exponentially, installing a home EV charger is becoming as essential as having a parking space. Combine it with rooftop solar, and you are charging your car with free sunshine instead of paying SGD 0.30–0.40/kWh at public stations.

This guide covers everything you need to know about installing an EV charger at your Singapore home — from electrical requirements and costs to solar integration and the permits you will need.

Types of Home EV Chargers

Level 1: Standard Socket (2.3 kW)

Uses your existing 13A household socket. Adds approximately 10–12 km of range per hour. Suitable only as a backup — a full charge takes 20–40 hours depending on battery size. No installation required, but far too slow for daily use.

Level 2: Dedicated Wall Box (7–22 kW)

The standard for home charging. A 7 kW charger adds approximately 35–40 km of range per hour, fully charging most EVs overnight (8–10 hours). This is the recommended option for Singapore homes. Requires a dedicated circuit from your electrical panel.

Level 2 Smart Charger (7–22 kW with Solar Integration)

A smart charger adds communication with your solar system and battery. It can prioritise solar power for charging, shift charging times to maximise self-consumption, and report energy usage through your monitoring app. Sunollo’s Abundance Pro includes integrated smart EV charging.

Electrical Requirements

Most Singapore landed homes have a 60A or 100A single-phase electrical supply. A 7 kW EV charger draws approximately 32A, which is feasible on a 60A supply but leaves limited headroom for other loads. Considerations:

  • 60A supply: A 7 kW charger is viable but you may need load management to prevent tripping during high-demand periods
  • 100A supply: Comfortable capacity for 7 kW EV charging alongside normal household loads
  • Three-phase supply: If available, enables 22 kW charging for much faster charge times (2–4 hours for a full charge)

Your electrician will assess your main switchboard capacity and may recommend an upgrade if your existing supply is insufficient. SP Services handles supply upgrades — typically SGD 500–2,000 for a capacity increase.

Installation Process

  1. Site assessment: An electrician evaluates your switchboard capacity, cable routing from panel to parking area, and any structural requirements for wall-mounting the charger
  2. Equipment selection: Choose between basic Level 2 and smart charger based on your solar system and preferences
  3. Electrical work: Dedicated circuit installation from switchboard to charger location, including cable conduit, circuit breaker, and RCD (residual current device) for safety
  4. Charger mounting: Wall-mount or pedestal installation at your parking spot
  5. Testing and commissioning: Load testing, safety checks, and app configuration for smart chargers

Total installation time: typically 1–2 days for a standard setup.

Costs (2026 Singapore)

  • Basic Level 2 charger (7 kW): SGD 1,500–2,500 (unit + installation)
  • Smart charger with solar integration: SGD 2,500–4,500
  • Electrical panel upgrade (if needed): SGD 500–2,000
  • Cable routing (long runs): SGD 300–800 additional

With Sunollo’s Abundance Pro system, EV charging is included in the $0 upfront subscription at no additional capital cost.

Solar-Powered EV Charging Economics

The financial case for solar EV charging is compelling. Read our detailed solar EV charging integration guide and efficiency analysis for complete economics.

Every kilometre driven on solar electricity instead of petrol or public grid charging reduces both your transport costs and your carbon footprint. Over a 10-year EV ownership period, solar charging can save SGD 15,000–25,000 compared to petrol, and SGD 8,000–15,000 compared to public charging.

The Bigger Picture

Home EV charging powered by solar is not just personal savings — it is part of Singapore’s dual decarbonisation of electricity and transport. Every solar-charged EV removes fossil fuel demand from two sectors simultaneously. As the nation works toward energy independence, your home becomes a clean energy hub that generates, stores, and fuels — all from sunlight.
